- Characteristics
- Apatos is a biocompatible1, osteoconductive2 biomaterial of heterologous origin with characteristics similar to mineralized human bone3,4; it can therefore be used as alternative to autologous bone. The natural microporous consistency of Apatos facilitates the formation of new bone tissue in bone defect area5, accelerating the process. Apatos nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite is a mix of cortical and cancellous bone granules.
- Handling
- Apatos must always be hydrated and thoroughly mixed with a few drops of sterile saline; it can also be mixed with patient's blood. The mixture thus obtained should be positioned with a sterile spatula or syringe for biomaterials.
- Clinical information
- Filler of large maxillofacial bone defects, reconstruction or corrections in non-load-bearing indications, Apatos may be used as a drug-carrier.
